Inmigración y segregación residencial. Aproximación teórica y empírica para el caso almeriense

Resumen

El debate sobre las causas de la segregación residencialha sido una constante en la literatura internacional con gran diversidad de opiniones. Tres son las grandes corrientes que explican el fenómeno: ecológica, económica, cultural e institucional. Este artículo describe los patrones recientes de segregación étnica de los europeos del este, latinoamericanos y africanos en Almería,con los índices de disimilitud, aislamiento y absoluta centralidad.A través de los resultados de una encuesta a inmigrantes se comprueba que la segregación étnica urbana en la zona del Poniente se debe fundamentalmente a la discriminación y exclusión en el mercado residencial, seguido del estatus étnico y años de residencia y en último lugar de las preferencias residenciales.
